Tove Fox Cone

Tove Fox Cone: An ancient mysterious fox sculpture. Viborg, Denmark.

Sometimes we find things that are beyond comprehension, and yet we try to make them relevant to our modern understandings of life, utility, and function.

What if these artifacts are in fact beyond the realm of reckoning or intended to solve an exact problem? When we've come so far from these original rituals, can we really trust in how much we've come to rely on logic?

What if the purpose of ancient practices is/was to be more simple, more humble, more present and connected to the powers that reside in the natural world? Or the inexpressible essence just beyond the realms of our senses?

I sometimes wonder about this, and try to suspend belief about what this or that was used for... For how the heck could we know? So much of science is educated guesswork, and yet allows us to tap into our ancestors that perhaps had greater access to these transitory realms. Or did they?! Maybe they were just trying to survive in insanely traumatic times...
