The Shiva Lingam is a symbol of fertility, masculinity, focus, meditation, connection between the manifest and the unmanifest realms. The word linga means “the form.”
The linga and the base together signify the union of Shiva and Shakti, the masculine and feminine energies.
"Naturally formed Lingas are called self-created or svayambhu-lingas. In Amarnath, in the northern state of Jammu. There is a cave where a Shiva linga of ice is formed every year. Some lingas are carved out of rock, wood, or gems; others are molded out of clay, sand or metal. These are pratishtith-lingas. Many lingas are covered by a metal sheath and given a face so that the devotee can relate better. These are mukhalingas. Some even have the entire image of Shiva carved on the surface." – Sadhguru
The lingams from the Narada River are precious and contain iron oxide deposits from a meteor that crashed into the river millions of years ago. Made from crypto-crystalline Quartz with certain impurities that adds to it's streaks, The lingam is valued for its unique combo of Agate, Basalt, and Jasper and is typically polished by hand.
Although it cools the body, a lingam also conducts and stores heat rapidly. It has a fire energy that is tangible through the body and auric field. This energy can be used to activate Kundalini energy.
Lingams are typically used in Shiva, and moon ceremonies (Especially good for Monday & Saturdays), and can be incredibly beneficial to those with Saturn or Moon afflictions in their astrology charts.
Note: The Narmada River is one of the five holy rivers, located in Onkar Mandhata (West India).
